Well, i'm a Uni student in my final year and the drinking age is 18 in NZ so i'm over the student pub environment but once and a while they do something great to intice me back for a night out. Well two of them now have weekly hold'em tournaments, so I decided to check it out one tuesday night at one of the pubs about 5 mins walk from my flat.

I was the first to arrive which I felt a bit stupid by, but I had my sounds so I managed to pass the time easy.

Anyway it was a $10 buy-in no other fee and all money in was prize money out which was cool. Max 50 players which was reached well before start and top 5 paid. First hand I got dealt QJ suited in the SB so I wasnt happy because I prefer to lay down my first hand for some reason. A few limpers so I raised preflop and had 3 to the flop it was a low flop with a J so I put out a reasonable bet and everyone folded so taking down the first pot was nice. I then had plenty of time before the blinds came around to me again and I decided to study the table. The play was very loose so I decided if I played tight for a while i'd be alright. I was up from the initial 500 starting chips to about 700 at the first break and the blinds werent increasing fast at all so I had heaps of time. I then got moved to another table and took down a few pots until I got a BB special something like 3 5 and I hit the bicycle on the turn which was the A so I managed to earn a few from someone with a pair of aces. I then got moved to the swish table with felt and took down some nice little pots there. When it was down to the final table, I took down the first four pots and had a nice stack probably 2nd but when I managed to knock out a big stack I was a big chip leader and continued to play strong. I only bluffed once and managed to get him to fold which was nice and managed to knock out a few short stacks with the ability to call some of their all-ins. Heads up only lasted 2 hands when i was dealt AJ diamonds and he raised I reraised him all in and he folded, next hand it was just called preflop and i hit middle pair of the flop he went all in and I called, he showed bottom pair so he didnt have many outs and my hand managed to hold up to collect a cool $225.

 I joined the local Moose Lodge a few weeks ago since my best friend was wearing me out about joining for months. Typical private club. Cigars, beer, popcorn, darts, pool and good old boys just killing time looking at the large chested waitress. However I walked in on a thursday to discover POKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sat down and within a few minutes realized I was the absolute best player at the table. Those guys are horrible. This thing was worse than a New Player Party Poker Freeroll. I took some huge bad beats but nothing major and ended up making 300 in less than 3 hours. I asked how often they played and they all said every Thursday and Saturday for the last 8 years or so.

OMG, I have played Poker forever and never stumbled on something like this. How do I keep this fish pond alive? Do I dump everyonce in awhile? What do I do?

To quote Amarillo Slim "You can shear a sheep many times but skin it only once"

See how they take losing, some people don`t seem to mind, they almost expect to lose. Longterm it might be worth dumping a little back now and then I suppose if it`s that juicy a game.

Hi all.

I am a Victoria BC player and truth be told, Ive been playing a lot online in the past year, but have not played much live at all. Ive played a bit at a couple of the cardrooms in town but I hate tipping dealers and Im really more of a tourney player anyways.

So, seeing as how I dont really know many players, and seeing as how I want to start a home game of my own one night a week, I thought Id try on here and see if any of the Victoria players and there seem to be a lot would be interested.

What I am thinking is...

Probably no more than 8-10 players including myself each week who would play a combination of Single table tournaments and ring games. Probably Saturday or Sunday afternoon/evening.

I would run single table tournaments with another table set aside for anybody who wants to have a ring game going when they bust. Its possible that we could all just play some ring games now and then also. I would structure tourneys however players wanted, but Ideally with a fairly fast moving pace so players who are eliminated early wouldnt have too long a wait. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half for each tourney.

I only have a 400 chip set Im getting more, and a cheap folding tabletop for 8 players, but that should be fine at least at first. I wouldnt want to play for serious stakes, just a social thing. Probably 10-20 buy in tourneys and 1/2 limit games would be fine. All in all, Id expect 50-100 should be more than enough each week. I would charge nothing, though I would win lots and lots of money .

Id play mostly Texas Holdem , but I enjoy all common forms of poker that you could find in a casino. Omaha, Stud, Hi-low games, even Draw or Pineapple are all fine. No silly wildcard/guts/weird games.

I am in my late 20s but Id welcome players of pretty much any age. Id supply a few snacks each week, but anyone whod want any kind of meals or alcohol would have to bring their own.

Ultimately, Id change any of this to comform with whatever players most wanted. Sooooooo.... anyone who might be interested or has any questions, feel free to reply in this thread and if it looks like we have lots of interest, Ill start PMing people with address details and times. Hopefully we could get something like this going by the end of June.

Any other opinions and ideas are welcome.
