its a 45 player sng, after taking repeated bad beats like AK loosing to A 10, I became short stacked, about 9x the BB with 20 players left, i pushed all in with 88.
Action folds around to BB, who had about 12x the BB, calls me, guess what he holds: 2 4 suited
Flop comes:
5 k 9 rainbow
Turn: 4
River: 2
Anyone care to run the math for me on the odds of someone with hands this crappy beating an over pair on a flop that misses them entirely with no flush or straight draws?

I usually type "DONKTACULAR" in the chat box when this happens.
Unfortunately it is a play reserved solely to online poker since fist fights usually break out in live play.
My stab at the math:
Assuming a full table of 9 players (Poker Stars right?) there are 18 of 52 cards dealt.
This leaves 33 cards preflop. Post flop there are 6 cards left of 30 which can help his hand not counting suits. So he has a 1 in 6 chance of improving to a pair even less counting your two set outs.
On the turn he has 29 cards to catch either a set or two pair with 5 outs. Take away the two 8s that will improve you to a set he has to hit 5 of 27 cards. Now Take away the three Kings that will give you two higher pair for 5 of 24 cards. So he is .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...
Whatever the guy was a donkey. Tough beat.

It just riles me when people play rubbish like that.Guess they have no respect for the game or money
Darknicrofia
08-11-2007, 10:55 AM
and it just so happens that people who play like that gets rewarded so many times, basically, if I beat them preflop to flop, they aren't smart enough to recognize it and ends up cracking me, if they do somehow sucked out on the flop, be it bottom pair on a board of 3 suited high cards, they WILL move all in on me.
Like that card commercial says, great cards always beats great skills.
2 days, down 100 dollars from retarded beats like this now. Some of which are:

Flop: A 5 Q (1 spade, I moved all in)
Turn: 3 of spades
River: Jack of spades

The poker god of variance is kicking you in the testicles right now. Try getting your aura cleansed or improve your Karma by volunteering at a homeless shelter. That usually helps my game.
Seriously, just take a step back type in LOL and take a break. If you look up that person's stats on sharkscope I promise you will find they are massive long term losers. Unfortunately you got hit by the bad beat truck that day.
Last night in the FTP Midnight Madness $10 buy in we were near the bubble and I was mid stacked. I am in the BB with KK and three short stacks limp to me. I bump it up to the pot essentially telling them all I have big pockets.
One caller. Flop comes down J38 with two spades.
I check to the short stack he pushes and I call.
He shows Ace of Spades and 2 of Diamonds.
Guess what the turn and river cards were? Spades.
I chuckle and type in "Donktacular". My stack is crippled with blinds and antes i won't last the next orbit. That same player two hands later, who could have folded deep into the money, pulls the same crap with the tourney chipleader. This time he busts and I make the money and finish 103rd instead of 198th.
Now that is Poker Karma

It sucks to be called with nothing and then to lose on the river but you`re going to lose this kind of race about 1 in 4 times
Me short stacked: A K
2nd shortest stack: 3 K
Flop: J J J
I moved all in

There`s not really enough information in these posts to determine how bad a beat they are.
If you were the shortstack with AK you probably should have been all-in pre-flop. The guy might still have called but when you`re shortstacked you sometimes have to gamble with any two cards. It`s always harsh to lose on the river, especially when you have someone dominated but again you`re going to lose these kind of races about 10 to 12% of the time.
Just a fact of the game I`m afraid. The important thing is to realise it`s gonna happen and learn to deal with it without going on tilt. The good thing about taking a beat in a tourney is that it`s never going to cost you more than your entry fee (unless it`s a rebuy). Cash games are where tilt is going to hurt your bankroll most..

Does this still even count as running bad??? Every single time its like I'm at 95% after the turn and river has knocked me out of I do believe 16 SnG's in a roll now when I'm ahead by at least 9 to 1.........I understand variance and all that, but what the hell man........
I think the probability of taking a medical exam blindfolded and scoring a 100 is higher than the probability of what has happened to me as of late, has anyone else had a run of 90 to 10 favor and 95 to 5 favors going into the river and getting knocked out of like 15+ tournaments in a roll? Does this even qualify as bad beats anymore???!!!!

4 outers for people going against me = at least 99% ahead
if i somehow win a hand when I'm 90% favorite going into the river, the % of that is equal to that of "regular" poker players hitting a 1 outer.

If i have a pair, and they have 1 overcard, they WILL hit it.
if i have overcards to their low pair, they WILL make a set or better

Pokerstars is systematically raping people that actually need the money from poker winnings, they'll lure you in with a couple of wins then make SURE you bust on the bubble to keep the bingo playing donkeys happy.
no? well i have no other explanation............ and yay my top set just got runner runner busted by a gut shot straight draw.
Honestly i wouldn't even care if I was dealt 27 offsuit 99% of the time if i was given even below average luck....but noooooooooooooo.........Pokerstars will keep dealing me KK to be cracked by A 6 or AA to be runner runnered by 2 5.

Seriously, I suggest a break (not the laptop, that`s def -EV) or a change of game. Try some omaha or even some FLHE, try anything except NLHE for a while. I`m hardly playing NLHE these days because I got so sick of the all-in any two cards crowd. I`m cleaning up in the less popular games just by playing a basic solid strategy. Try something different, you might find you enjoy it more :)

Darc,
I am completely serious when I say that you should try limit poker.
Sure it is a grind but you will learn how to play post flop.
Reading players and playing a board makes so much more sense after about a million hands of FLHE.
Those Donkey Chasers are still there catching miracle river cards but:
A. The absolute math of poker will always win in the long run.
B. You will not go broke in one hand.
C. Trapping, Baiting and Goating them into giving you chips is soooo easy.
If you insist on sticking with NLHE invest in a Nerf Football (for throwing a fit), a punching bag (beating yourself silly) and learn how to take and post screen shots so we can all get a chuckle.

Ok, hand 1 is pretty unlucky, a tighter player would have let those jacks go because your raise from the BB could be an ace.
Hand 2. you could have gotten away from cheaper than you did.. And your opponents play isn`t bad, although a tighter player wouldn`t complete the SB. In this case he does and he gets an excellent flop for him. With an open ended straight draw he will make it approx 32% of the time.
After the flop the pot is 75 cents, he checks, you raise and the other player calls. Your straight chaser is getting 5-1 on his money for a 2-1 shot. Those are great pot odds so he calls.
On the turn, he checks, you bet and the other player folds. However there`s now $2 in the pot giving him 4-1 if he calls. He can also factor in the bet you`re in all likelihood going to make on the river. He still has the right pot odds to call.
You really should have wondered why after check calling all the way he suddenly comes out firing on the river (If I were him I would probably have check-raised here). There were possible straights and flushes out there, he could even have made a set of jacks, although that was less likely given the jack in your hand. You should have flat called at that point. Instead you capped the betting and gave away 3 more bets you could have saved.

If you read the board he flopped a straight draw to your Top Pair Middle Kicker and you were in trouble if he had a set or KQ-KK-AK.
Generally with a marginal hand I find check / call-fold here a much cheaper 'long run' alternative to calling a reraise. Sure you are still beat but you save a Big Bet on the river.

Cheap flops equals these kind of ugly suckouts. If you aren't willing to raise preflop with KJ sooted then learn how to fold it.
Learn how to fold on the river if your gut says you got chased down.
Save those BBs for the next time a donkey tries to run you down.
In the long run, if you have pokertracker learn how to use it, not calling that one BB on the River reraise makes a losing player into a break even player and eventually a break even player into a Shark.

We all know Kalams last day as President is over. Some of us would have hear to his last speech as president. He openly said that current India is corrupted country, it does give a pinch to me. No media give impotence to this word. What medias responsibility in India i think its a big question martk. Even NDTV i consider most unbiased never give impotent to this. I think every body agree India is corrupted that true. But if we say that it should give a small pinch to us at least. Other wise no body can save India, it will go more and more worst.

its the flash version that lets you play through one town.
the full version for sale lets you play through all the towns in texas. but even the flash version takes a while to finish
that version of poker is called texas holdem, the most popular form of poker in the world.
in that version you are dealt two private cards and combine them as does everyone else with five community cards to see who can make the best hand. if youre only used to five card poker then texas holdem will be a little confusing at first.
btw, the rules for hands are exactly the same as other versions of poker, ie it still takes five cards of the same suit to make a flush...

The nice thing about playing online though is that you can easily sign off and move to another poker site if you find that people are being too rude on one site.

Tough beat.
i don't agree with this calculation, taking the cards that other players are holding into consuderation is wrong. you should only use the hole cards and the comm cards 52 - 4 -3 = 47
so he has 6 outs on the turn 3 dueces and 3 4's and another 5 on the river
he has to hit them both
meaning : 6 of 47 is about 1 of 8 , and 5 of 46 is about 1 of 9
because he has to hit them both his odds are 1 of 72
meaning the 71/72 times you would be the winner. and yes it hurts to loose this way, but in the long term these situations are prfitable for you

Poker is a game about decision making. You can apply math on weighing your hand odds against your pot odds.Incorporating poker mathematics into the plays you make improve your game, and give you an advantage over players that do not use them.
