Hello,

I've never played a hand of poker before. That being said where can I learn to play
for free online, and what are some good beginner books to read. Thank you.

All the online poker rooms have games for "play money" where you can learn and practice for free. Most sites also have "freeroll" tournaments where you`ll have the chance to win a little real money without risking any of your own.

As for books. Phil Helmuth`s Play Poker Like The Pros has a good beginners section for No limit holdem. You could also try Super System by Doyle Brunson.

There are also plenty of places online you can find strategy guides and tips. Just look around a little.

I suggest you look at Full Tilt's Poker Academy. Once you sign up for an account you can access it. The videos and strategy guides are spot on. Work your way through them and you will be a solid player before you know it.

How lucky are we as Poker fans to have John Caldwell and Gary Wise and now Andrew Feldman, posting, sharing their thoughts and giving us examples of their great wit and writings here at Poker Road.

Im relativty new to holdem myselfplaying about 6 months online, and ive come 2nd, 5th, 1st and 1st in the 4 live tournaments ive played, but the best advice I can give is stay disciplined. In my opinion, discipline is the most important tool in a poker players arsenal. That means not betting with mediocre handsA6, K10, QJ etc. Of course im talking about an 7 or 8 handed table. The less players, the more valuable a hand can get, and of course position matters also. But normally even in late position, and I have A7, K10 or whatever it goes in the bin.

Hello

Poker is the hottest casino game in the country right now. Millions of people enjoy this game of chips and wits. Many of us want to play like the pros from the World Poker Tour do. One way to do that is to learn how to handle your chips like they do.

What kinds of benefits do chip tricks offer a poker player? Are they just neat visual tricks and nothing more? Not necessarily. Poker is a game in which you play the player just as much (if not more) than the cards you’re dealt. As a result, chip tricks can enhance your strategy in three very important ways.

1) Distract or intimidate your opponent. If you are playing with your chips, it will remind your opponent, especially if you are the chip leader, just how many chips you do have. If your opponent is watching you play with your chips, he or she is not watching his or her cards. That is to your advantage.

2) Grounding you in the game. Poker is all about chips. Whoever has the most chips wins. If you are checking out your chips, then you are reminding yourself what the object of the game is. You may also be able to count your chip stack without garnering too much attention, from the other opponents. This can be especially helpful in those difficult pots in which you’re on the defensive.

Thanks
Have a nice time a head.
