Miracles at Sunset

Among the greatest blessings in my beloved Maritimes
Sunset closing one more day as distant church bells chime.
Orange and red hug blue and white; sky's wondrous display
I stop to offer up my thanks for the miracles in my day.
I heard a song God wrote for me in a tiny baby's giggle
When he first saw his tiny hand excitement made him wiggle.
I saw the wonders of God's love as I walked around my town
I saw His love in hands held out to strangers who were down.
I felt the joyful innocence in a child's hug filled with trust
My heart so full began to swell 'til I thought that it would bust.
Humbled by forgiveness of my thoughtless words and deeds
While praying I'd speak kinder words; be aware of others needs.
I watch the sun sink slowly as it nestles into bed
It pulls the quilt of darkness up completely o'er it's head.
The world becomes more peaceful, as life becomes more still
Yet, the miracles continue and I give thanks that is His will.

The Butterfly

She’s been confined for far too long her silent screams unheard
This same silence said much more than any spoken word.
She wrapped each hurt around her-it made her feel secure
She felt that none could see her-of this she was so sure.
To gain freedom was not easy she climbed up from despair
Each color that is on her wings a courage badge to wear.
She now knows she is worthy of freedom and self love
To have the peace she’s always yearned-to soar the skies above.
Her natural beauty hidden within this tight cocoon
She begins her struggle to emerge we know it will be soon.
Timidly she spreads her wings until it feels just right
When first she soars high on her own it’s such an awesome sight.
Gliding in the clouds above so happy to be free
With sureness she can say the words “I’ll choose what’s right for me”.
She shows her natural beauty now with a certain pride
No longer bound by circumstance no longer must she hide.
