This week is National Poker Week, and the PPA, along with many poker players are swarming Washington DC to try and open the politicians eyes on why America needs to repeal the UIGEA and regulate online poker instead.

Today I watched John Pappas, Excutive Director of the PPA, on CNBC earlier today talking about National Poker Week. Here is a link to the news clip > http://tinyurl.com/mkvlut

The Poker Players Alliance picked it as the week to round up supporters and hit DC hard to try and get the laws changed, the UIGEA being the reason. The month of August is when the Congress takes a recess, so I'd say that had a lot to do with choosing July .

A letter was just sent out to PPA members with a National Poker Week Recap.

During National Poker Week:

* more than 375,000 signed the poker petition for President Obama
* more than 225,000 letters were sent to Capitol Hill
* more than 1,000 calls to Congressional offices
* more than 100 meetings with members of the U.S. House and Senate

Legislation introduced in the House of Representatives by Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA), H.R. 2267, now has over 50 cosponsors, and with this new Senate bill the PPA will continue its advocacy work during the August recess so that key Senators know their constituents want them to cosponsor this bill.

My Rep. John Yarmuth actually responded with a well written and I believe personal email supporting 'personal choice' and poker. While he is not a co-sponsor of the bill I think he will vote for it. Here in Kentucky there is lots of interesting online stuff boiling under the radar screen. We may see a resolution to the domain seizure case and a few very positive "intrastate" initiatives very soon. Thanks PPA for waking everyone up.
